Bayfield

Ratepayers

Association

Our committees do most of the work of the Association.  In addition to our on-going standing committees, we have several "ad hoc" committees that deal with short term "issues of the day".

If you are interested in participating in committee activities, please contact the committeee chair.

Standing Committees:

Municipal Taxation - Chair Alan Vihant

The Municipal Taxation Committee reviews and comments on the Municipal and County budgets, to ensure that our tax dollars are being spent responsibly and to ensure that Bayfield Ward is receiving its fair share of services from the Municipality and County.

Membership and Communications -

This Committee is responsible for maintaining an accurate membership list, for recruiting new members to the Association, and for communicating with our members about the significant issues for our community through our website and printed media.

Planning and Development - Chair Alan Vihant

This Committee helps Council draft appropriate zoning by-laws, monitors the enforcement of the by-laws through regular attendance at Municipal Planning Committee meetings, and addresses specific development proposals in the Ward.

By-law Enforcement -

This is the "Complaint Department"

Water Quality - Chair Dave MacLaren

The Water Quality Committee monitors water quality in the Bayfield River Watershed and along the shoreline where our major beaches are located.  It participates in meetings and activities with the Ausible Bayfield Conservation Authority, the Huron County Health Unit, the Municipal Blue Flag Sub Committee, the Ministry of the Environment and other related groups.

Council Relations -

The committee regularly attends municipal council meetings, county council meetings and meetings of other committees of council.  It provides a "day to day" interface with our elected representatives, ensuring that our community is recognized.

Ad Hoc Committees:

Municipal Facilities Review -

The Munipality recently conducted a review of all Municipally owned land and buildings, and is attempting to rationalize their facilities for the benefit of the taxpayers. Public input is being solicited to help Council with this process.

Archives, Library, Post Office & Washrooms Project -

As part of the Facilities Review, the Municipality identified the Bayfield Archives and Post Office site as a high priority, to be dealt with in the next year.

Main Street Revitalization -

The Bayfield and Area Chamber of Commerce has initated this project, to update the Revialization plan so that it is "shovel ready" for any forthcoming grants etc.

Business Retention & Expansion Program -

The BR&E program is funded and managed by the Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Affairs.  It attempts to help small, rural communities survivie and grow.

Election Readiness -

This year is a municipal election year.  The committee will be responsible for identifying a slate of candidates supportive of the Ward's priorities, and ensuring we "get out the vote" at election time.
